CUHAS Profile
In September 2003, CUHAS-Bugando began operations as a Constituent University College of SAUT. It received a Certificate of Interim Authority (CIA) on March 28, 2002, and a Certificate of Provisional Registration (CPR) on March 27, 2003. By 2005, the College had become solidly established, and the Tanzania Commission of Universities had granted it full registration status (TCU). At its 53rd meeting, the Commission approved SAUT’s request to turn the College into a full-fledged university and issued CUHAS-Bugando a Certificate of Full Registration. It was planned at the outset that it would be organized into faculties, institutions, and directorates. It chose to go into school mode in 2009/2010, and as a result, four schools were established: The Weill Bugando School of Medicine (which has taken the place of the Faculty of Medicine)The Weill Bugando School of Medicine (which replaces the Faculty of Medicine), A School of Pharmacy, the Archbishop Anthony Mayala School of Nursing, and a School of Public Health. The new Schools had their first intake in the Academic Year 2010/2011.The Institute of Allied Health Sciences was established within the Bugando University of Health Sciences in 2006/2007.
