The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) informs the general public that the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) is inviting eligible Tanzanians to apply for Commonwealth Scholarships for Master’s and PhD programmes for the 2027/2028 academic year.
Since 1960, the CSC has funded over 34,000 individuals to study in the UK, equipping scholars with the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to tackle global development challenges.

- Target Audience: Eligible Tanzanian citizens and refugees residing in Commonwealth countries
Eligibility & Requirements
- Master’s Degree Applicants: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree of at least Upper Second-Class with Honours.
- PhD Applicants: Must hold a relevant Master’s degree with at least Upper Second-Class with Honours or Distinction.
- Supervisor Support: All applicants must secure support from a potential supervisor at least at one UK university listed in their application form.
- Foreign Qualifications: Candidates with degrees obtained outside the United Republic of Tanzania must have their certificates verified by the relevant accrediting authorities.
- Document Formatting: All supporting materials must be submitted according to the required formats.
Required Supporting Documents
Applicants must upload and submit the following documents during the application process:
- Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts
- Two (2) recommendation letters / referee reports
- One (1) supporting statement from a UK institution (PhD candidates only)
- Proof of Tanzanian citizenship or refugee status in a Commonwealth country
- A quality study plan outlining the potential impact of your studies on the development of your home country
